1/18/2008 - Firm Negotiates Settlement on Behalf of Local Contractor

The firm recently obtained a settlement on behalf of a local contractor (plaintiff) who was owed more than $400,000 by a large real estate marketing and management company (defendant) for work performed under HUD contracts for repairs to homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The work began in fall of 2005 but by early 2006, the defendant had ceased payments to the plaintiff, at which time, the balance owed was substantial. During the pendency of this action it was discovered that numerous other contractors and subcontractors had similar experiences with the defendant. Plaintiff asserted claims for breach of contract, negligence and fraud. The case was settled prior to trial.
